The Lesser Known Benefits Of CBD (Part 1)

CBD May Have Some Benefits You Haven’t Heard Of

CBD is an acronym for Cannabidiol, a type of cannabinoid found in cannabis along with other natural terpenes. It has gained popularity as a natural remedy to many health conditions and disorders. However, the lesser-known benefits of CBD are seldom discussed. CBD may help treat diseases such as glaucoma, Crohn’s Disease, and even help to slow or halt prion growth! These lesser-known benefits of CBD should be discussed more often because they have unique healing properties that could help you or your family member who deals with one of these ailments. In part 1 of this blog series, we’ll discuss how CBD may positively affect the conditions mentioned above.

How CBD May Help Treat Glaucoma

One lesser-known benefit of CBD is its ability to help treat glaucoma. Glaucoma, which affects the optic nerve and can lead to blindness if not treated quickly enough, causes a buildup of fluid inside your eyes. This buildup increases pressure on your eye’s drainage system and prevents it from functioning correctly. It may result in “blind spots” or total vision loss over time without treatment, but this condition has been shown to be helped by taking CBD.

The eyes are connected to your endocannabinoid system too! You might have heard about how the brain produces its own natural cannabinoids called endocannabinoids. They interact with receptors all around our bodies (called cannabinoid receptors). These same endocannabinoid transmitters are found in the eyes and may help relieve pain and discomfort caused by glaucoma. Some doctors have even embraced CBD as a potential treatment option to alleviate late-stage glaucoma symptoms.

CBD May Provide Relief From Crohn’s Disease

One of the lesser-known benefits of CBD is that it’s been shown to ease symptoms for those who have Crohn’s disease. It does this by possibly inhibiting gut spasms, potentially relieving pain, and reducing inflammation in your digestive tract. Inflammation in the gut due to Crohn’s disease is perhaps one of the most problematic symptoms.

This chronic condition that causes inflammation is actually one type of autoimmune disease. CBD may reduce gut spasms, relieve pain, and reduces the inflammatory response in your digestive tract. CBD has been found to be very useful for those who have trouble managing their symptoms of Crohn’s throughout the day with other medications. Higher doses are sometimes needed by people who have this disease instead of smaller, more common dosages required by others.

CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties may make it effective at reducing all sorts of swelling, including that which can lead to dangerous gastrointestinal obstructions (GI bleeding, etc.)

Prion Growth May Potentially Be Halted With CBD

Prions are unique proteins that are also sometimes infectious agents. They cause diseases such as Mad Cow, Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, and Kuru.

It is thought that CBD may halt the growth of these prions in your body if you have symptoms. In addition, some studies have shown CBD may restrict prion growth.
